The Hoquiam School Board approved tighter restrictions to tobacco use on school campuses during its February regular board meeting.
The new policy restricts use of any tobacco product and any "tobacco innovation or look a like". This change will include "e-cigarettes".
The Truancy Board was created this year based on models from Spokane Valley High School and Sunnyside High School. The Truancy Board is made up of volunteer community members dedicated to helping students find success in school.
The Truancy Board does this by identifying barriers to school attendance, problem-solve solutions, connect truant youth and their families with community-based services and strengthen collaboration between schools, community members and juvenile courts.
The Hoquiam School Board approved a new procedure under Policy 6970, Naming Facilities that now establishes a "Wall of Distinction" recognizing individuals from our school and community who have contributed to the betterment of the district.
Nominations are now being accepted.

Hoquiam High School is one of twelve schools chosen in the region for the ESD 113 Schools of Distinction Award for 2013.
Schools are selected based upon five years of improvement in their performance data (measured by numeracy and literacy results on state assessments).
